This week was less focused on technology and was more about improving our writing skills. These activities enhanced my creativity, writing, and research skills.
Activity 1:
For the first activity, we had to research a specific technology and find out about its users and its uses. The technology I chose was 5G technology. The research acquired is as follows:
5G is the 5th generation of mobile networks. It provides more reliability, less latency, and a vast networking capacity. It has a profound impact on the real world, including the medical field. It has been designed to transfer data at 20Gbps speed while the 4G network runs at 1Gbps speed.
Different users of 5G technology include mobile users, various industries, and internet service providers. It not only offers better network performance but provides excellent help to different sectors, including the health industry. 5G technology and Wi-Fi together will enable patients to be monitored through connected devices, which allows medical professionals to be always aware of the patients leading health indicators such as their heart rate, sugar levels, and blood pressure.
It shows improvement from its previous generations/models. Its also said that the 5G will overtake 4G in the coming years.
Activity 2: Flash Fiction
The second activity involved writing design fiction while following a guide. The story is as follows:
The Screaming Boy
I was about to head to the parking lot to get to class an hour early when I heard what sounded like glass shattering and someone screaming. I rush to the apartment from where the crashing sound had come from and bang on the door.
"Hello? Are you alright?" I say and am met with silence. I wait for a few seconds and then hear the screams again. "Hello? Do you need help? Please open the door!" I yell again. I rang the doorbell twice but still got no response from my neighbour. Finally, the door creaks open. "Please... Help me... Please", whispers a frightened-looking kid. " I quickly go to the child and ask him what's happened. The kid doesn't respond but points to the kitchen. He grabs me and shakes his head as I start to the kitchen. "What is it? Do you not want me to go?". "I want to come with you.", he says, although his hands are quivering. "Alright. But before we go, I want to ask you something. Is the person someone you know?" I ask him, hoping to stall time. He gives me the tiniest of a nod, and I go inside. As I near the kitchen, I see the broken pieces of glass plates lying on the floor. I searched the whole place but found no one.
I gasp as I realize the kid's gone missing. I run back out of the apartment and pace the corridor. When I couldn't spot him, I asked my dear neighbour, Old Barney, if he's seen the kid. Barney looks shocked and says that no one's lived in that apartment since the freak accident that killed a father and son 10 years ago. Thankfully, I reached the university on time. I try to forget the incident and what Barney said about the ghost following me, but I can't shake off the feeling of being watched.
Activity 3: Short Story (Summative Assessment)
Green Home, The Tech-Abode
Stephanie Sunil
I was diagnosed with dementia a few months ago. My daughter brought me to Green Home, a Tech-Abode for people like me. Everyone gets a personalized chip with input given by their loved ones. Arnold, my robot companion, has access to this chip and takes care of me. My morning starts with him scanning me to check my physical and mental well-being. He senses my emotions and visualizes my happier past self through the VR headset. "You're getting a call from your daughter, Mrs. Sarah. Would you like me to answer?". "Yes, please".
I smile as I see my daughter, though it is a hologram. "Dad, how was your first week at Green Apples Home? I hope you're not mad at me for taking you there; I just think it's better for you there than here", she says with a sad smile. "Of course not! I'm enjoying my time here. Arnold is even better than you at helping me!" I tell her with a laugh. Arnold suddenly goes to my bedside table and gets me my medication. "Oh, right, I forgot. Thank you, Arnold". I take my medicine. "I need to head to work now; I'll come see you at five, okay?". "Sure, Goodbye, dear!".
Arnold brings the wheelchair to my bedside and helps me get on. "What would you like for breakfast, Mr. John?" he asks as we go down the hallway. "I'd like today's special." We stop by Mr. James' table and ask if he's up for today's travel game. "Sí, un boleto a Barcelona, por favor." I wait as Arnold translates it. I accept his request and go to my table. The waitress hands me my food as Arnold plays my favourite jazz music.
After breakfast, Arnold takes me to meet James at the VR room, where we explore Barcelona and play games (This VR experience is for us to stimulate the specific regions of our brain). As it nears 2 o'clock, we eat lunch in the courtyard. Then Arnold and the other robots help us to our rooms for our afternoon nap. Arnold helps me to bed, closes the curtains, and keeps the door ajar. The last one surprised me; he had remembered. On my first day here, I panicked when the door was shut; Arnold sensed my panic as my heart rate rose. He opened the door and helped me calm down using the memory chip.
I wake up to my daughter's cheerful greeting, accompanied by the sweet giggling of my grandchildren. I chuckle with happiness as each embrace me and reminisce the memories of my late wife hugging me after my day at work. It was she who helped me realize the importance of spending the limited time we have with our family and letting them know how much we care for them. My body feels lighter as I listen to my dear loved ones, my daughter at my side, and my grandkids at my feet. How wonderful life is!

Reflection:
It had been a while since I wrote a short story; I felt excited and thoroughly enjoyed this fun-filled experience. This assignment improved my writing, creativity, and time management skills. The AI generative engine ChatGPT has expanded my understanding of diverse research topics within the information technology field. It helped me learn more about emerging technologies like Neuromorphic Computing, Quantum Computing, Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and many more. This experience also helped me realize that we should not negatively view technological advancement but also look at its positive aspects. When utilized in the right way, it has the potential to significantly benefit diverse individuals and help them become more creative and innovative.
